Calmbirth Birth Story - Britt, Chris and Baby Frankie - "I birthed Frankie standing up and into his dad's arms"
Feb 05, 2026
Dear Amy,
We were one of your July Calmbirth couples (me a vicariously traumatized Paediatrician and Chris a hippie)
This is a message of immense gratitude. Our son Frankie was born yesterday. Very nearly in the gutter of the hospital car park. We laboured in the comfort of our bedroom listening to the rain and kookaburras. There was vomit, there was wee, there was liquor. The place basically needs an industrial clean! We arrived full dilated and I had just enough time for someone to take my pants off and I birthed Frankie standing up and into his dad’s arms.
What an absolute dream. Your words and wisdom were with us the whole way. I made sure my noises (oh the noises) were deep and low, Chris somehow got me to work off the adrenaline during transition which lead to rupture of membranes and 2 minutely contractions. I did my very best to not push in the car despite really really wanting to - Chris even said at one point in the car “um I think we actually need to disrupt your oxytocin right now!”
The impulse get to the ground was overwhelming - hence he was bloody near born in a gutter at the front of Monash!
Thank you for inspiring and empowering us.
Frankie is an absolute delight, and we have recently invested in a baby carrier which has been fantastic as there are times where he just would rather sleep as close to his favorite things in the world, which are my boobs!
Love, Britt and Chris
